Up and running since 1999, Kent's Three Miles Out is slowly working their way-up the musical food chain from local to regional and ,hopefully at some point, national success. Still getting attention from "That's Life", their second release, guitarist Ken Voll traded thoughts with OhioOnline music correspondent Peanuts via cyberspace on how far out the band wants to go

What part of Ohio did you grow up in? |
| KV: |
"Actually, I grew up in Pennsylvania and was displaced to Ohio, but the state has definitely grown on me. I live in Ravenna now, just east of Kent." |
| OO: |
In that case, where did the musical influence come from? |
| KV: |
"My family were all big music lovers, but some friends in junior high school coaxed me into my first band after hearing me imitating different singers and cartoon characters." |
| OO: |
Any previous bands you were in you want to mention? |
| KV: |
"All of us were playing around Ohio, with varying degrees of success, but couldn't find the cohesiveness needed for longevity." |
| OO: |
What national artists have been an influence? |
| KV: |
"Personally, I have been influenced by just about every rock/alternative and even pop and punk band out there. Everyone from Led Zeppelin to AC/DC to the Who, Rush, Black Crowes,Goo Goo Dolls. I could go on and on." |
| OO: |
Have you been on a bill with any of them yet? |
| KV: |
"We have yet to play with any of them, but have put some things in place recently that will give us an edge this year for having that happen. My wish list includes SR 71, Eve 6, The Goo Goo Dolls and Fuel." |
| OO: |
How about Ohio bands, anyone match up with you? |
| KV: |
KV: "We mesh with a great number of them like Mike Farley, Tony Lang, Trip Man Dead, Bancroft, Gatlin, Connor O'Brien. We have done shows with most of them already or have shows coming up where we are playing with them." |
| OO: |
Next step would be the bands sound? |
| KV: |
"We like to think of our music as 'Ultra Modern Rock'. We use strong guitars and two lead vocalists and big harmonies and solid drum tracks. " |
| OO: |
Now, regarding the disc, where did you record it? |
| KV: |
"We recorded and mastered it at Sound Wave Studios in beautiful Ravenna. Duplication and packaging by Discmakers. All artwork and photos done by the great Tom Shaffer of SWS." |
| OO: |
How was the recording experience there? |
| KV: |
"The studio was a blast. It is a state of the art studio with all the latest and greatest and it is owned and operated by our other guitarist Mark Knapp. We got to be involved in the whole process and Mark is a real great engineer." |
| OO: |
Favorite venue to play in the state? |
| KV: |
"That is probably the toughest question you asked. We play so many great ones like Hard Rock Cafe and the Odeon in downtown Cleveland. The best, the craziest, crowd has to be Scorchers in Streetsboro. That place is fun with a capital F." |
| OO: |
Three Miles Out's long term plans? |
| KV: |
"We are seeking out that ever elusive record deal and have everything going in the right direction for that. But, we are also looking at the movie soundtrack avenue. In the meantime, we just want to play our music to everyone locally, nationally, internationally, intergalactically. Okay, maybe that's just alittle too far, but you get it." |
