First Female Team To Reach Both Poles
A team of five English women reached the South Pole on January 24, 2000, after reaching the North Pole in 1997. Caroline Hamilton, Ann Daniels, Pom Oliver, Rosie Stancer, and Zoe Hudson skied 1,118.4 km (695 miles) over Antarctica over 65 days.

Michael Kearney started studying for an Associate of Science degree at Santa Rosa Junior College, California, USA in September 1990 at the age of 6 years 7 months. He became the world's youngest graduate in June 1994, at the age of 10 years 4 months, when he obtained his BA in anthropology from the University of South Alabama. When he is not studying he enjoys doing what any other American teenager enjoys - playing video games, traveling, and playing soccer. As for the future, Michael would love to have the opportunity to host an educational television show for children.
Smallest Guitar
A guitar carved from a block of silicon and based on a Fender Stratocaster measured 10 micrometers long - 1/20 of the thickness of human hair. Each string was 0.05 mm (1/500 in) thick, equivalent to 100 atoms laid end to end. Made in order to demonstrate a new technology that could be used in fiber optics, displays and sensors. The strings on the guitar can be plucked with the right instruments, but produce a sound frequency which is too high to be heard by the human ear.
